About auDA
.au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) is Australia’s country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) administrator and self-regulatory policy body, which oversees the operation and management framework of the .au domain of the Internet.
auDA is a not-for-profit organisation established by the Australian internet community and has over 4,900 members. We work with a range of stakeholders including industry, government and the Australian and international internet community to administer a trusted .au for the benefit of all Australians, and champion an open, free, secure and global internet.
The .au ccTLD is part of Australia’s critical infrastructure, and we have been endorsed by the Commonwealth Government to ensure it is a secure, accessible and trusted Australian public asset for all internet users.
Our core functions, as set out by our Terms of Endorsement from Government, are to:
- Ensure stable, secure and reliable operation of the .au domain, as part of Australia’s suite of critical infrastructure
- Administer a licensing regime for .au domain names based in multi-stakeholder processes that is transparent, responsive, accountable, accessible and efficient
- Advocate for, and actively participate in, multi-stakeholder Internet governance processes both domestically and internationally.
We also represent Australia’s interests internationally and have an agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) – the international body responsible for coordinating the internet’s naming and numbering systems.
We recognise the critical importance of our role and the work we do, and we hold ourselves to high standards of corporate governance and integrity. The auDA Constitution governs how the organisation operates, including appointment and duties of Board Directors, and membership of auDA and our advisory committees.

About the Board
The auDA Board consists of one Independent Chairperson, five Appointed directors and four Elected directors. The Constitution was amended in 2021 to build in rules governing director terms, retirement, reappointment and re-election. The Board Charter sets out director roles, responsibilities and duties and the Board Skills Matrix sets out the skills, experience and qualities expected of individual directors and the Board as a whole.

The Opportunity
auDA’s independent Nomination Committee seeks applications from candidates for three Board positions. The Nomination Committee will approve a number of candidates for the Board to consider. Two of the candidates nominated will be directly appointed by the Board and others will take part in an election for the third position. The three Director positions will take effect after the 19 November 2024 AGM. While existing Directors are eligible to apply under auDA’s Constitution for a further term, none are expected to do so on this occasion.
About You
Candidates wishing to be considered will need strong professional skills and demonstrated experience in some or all of the following areas to provide the depth and breadth of skills required of the auDA Board collectively:
- Strategy, planning and policy development
- Governance
- Global multi-stakeholder policy and regulation
- Relevant technical (including digital and internet) and industry knowledge
- Innovation
- Stakeholder relations
- Finance and reporting.
In addition, the following personal qualities are essential:
- Ability to work collegiately and contribute constructively
- Sound business judgement and agile leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
Applications are welcome from people of all ages, genders, LGBTIQ+, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Among the successful candidates on this occasion, it is likely that at least one will have strong financial credentials and at least one will have very relevant technical and industry knowledge.
Note:
- Shortlisted potential directors will need to complete usual probity and reference checking and an AusCHECK as part of the selection and appointment process
- The current remuneration for Board positions is about $50,000 annually for Directors and Committee Chairs receive an additional 10% annually.
