Discussion:
1. Dispute Resolution
auDA reported on its informal discussions with auDRP provider Leading Edge Alternative Dispute Resolvers (LEADR). NRG members gave in principle approval to the proposed two-tier process for handling local council objections and other types of disputes about community geographic domain names.
auDA will draft a dispute resolution policy to govern mediations and arbitrations, following the same basic structure and principles as the auDRP (but less complex to administer).
2. Pilot Project Update
NM gave an update on the test cases. Bathurst and Wollongong are on track to complete the online application process by 18 June; Ballarat may be a little late.
JL, KW, GF, PH, CLO and Peter Shilling (registrar) will act as application assessors. NM will contact all assessors in the week beginning 21 June to go through the assessment process in more detail.
The NRG will formally approve (or reject) the domain name applications at its next meeting on 13 July and test cases will receive notification shortly thereafter. auDA will arrange for "dummy" domain names to be allocated to successful test cases so they can build their community web portals.
3. NRG Meeting Schedule, Jun-Oct 2004
NRG members noted the proposed meeting schedule for June-October.
4. CGNA Database
CGNA has provided an authoritative database of Australian address localities to auDA. Recently the database was found to be missing at least 76 place names. CGNA has undertaken to provide an updated database to auDA, and will take steps to ensure future address locality data is accurate and complete.
5. auDA Public Consultation
As determined by the auDA Board earlier this year, auDA will be conducting public consultation about whether or not the restriction on Australian place names in com.au and net.au should be lifted. The consultation will take place in July, with outcomes to be considered by the auDA Board in August.
6. Next Meeting
The next teleconference will be held on Tuesday 13 July 2004, 2-4pm.
