Discussion:
1. Domain Name Policy Rules and Guidelines
The NRG discussed the draft paper. The following points were raised:
The paper (amended as discussed) will be published on the auDA web site by the end of November, with submissions due in early January. NRG members were encouraged to use appropriate mechanisms for circulating the paper and bringing it to the attention of relevant stakeholders. CD agreed that auDA would issue a media release to try and raise broader public awareness of the issues.
2. Registry / Registrar Functions
The NRG discussed the draft paper. It was agreed that the paper should state all registrar options in a neutral manner (ie. without obvious "pros" and "cons"), and that NRG preferences should not be indicated at this time.
The paper (amended as discussed) will be published on the auDA web site at the same time as the Policy Rules and Guidelines, with the same deadline for comment.
3. OCOS Pilot Project Test Case Update
NM gave an update on the OCOS pilot project. Ballarat has recently joined the project, meaning that teset cases will be run for bathurst.nsw.au and ballarat.vic.au. It was noted that the two test cases will provide useful points of differentiation in testing the domain name application and registration processes.
NRG members noted that the current timetable for the pilot project will require the policy rules and guidelines to be finalised (as much as possible) before February 2004.
4. Advisory Forum Membership
NM invited NRG members to provide names and contact details for possible Advisory Forum members. It was agreed that in the case of national bodies (eg. ACCI), a single national representative would be preferable to separate state representatives.
5. NRG Meeting Schedule
NRG members noted the proposed meeting schedule. It was agreed to cancel the meeting scheduled for December 2003, and hold the next NRG meeting during the third week of January 2004 (by which time the outcomes of the public consultation will be available). Possible meeting dates will be canvassed on the mail list.
