Incidentally, the name chosen to describe what is just normal commercial practice, (ie, finding an opportunity to maximise income and running with it), seems sinister. Deliberately so? Most of the submissions show a decided lack of knowledge of how internet search engines actually work. They don't search by the domain name, they search by content they find on the pages, by links to the site, by meta tags, by keywords, by any number of other factors too numerous and tricky to mention here. So people who are complaining about their domains not coming up on searches, should get back to their webmaster and complain to them and tell them to optimise their site so that search engines will find it and rank it. They should also realise if they are running a business, that they need to do other advertising in other areas such as yellow pages, tv, radio, etc to direct people to their own site. They should realise that the Internet is not some golden pond into which only they can dip their toes. In other words, mind their own businesses better, rather than looking around to blame others who are smarter than them and making more money than them. The issue of domain names registration, how many zillions are out there, is therefore irrelevant as search engines don't rank by domain names. Furthermore, people should remember that the whole internet was established for the sharing of knowledge. Advertising is just another form of knowledge. Keep the cyber police out or they will take over and no one will benefit. Where do they stop? This is about one group with commercial interests, trying to oust another group with commercial interests and using the "Authorities" to back them up. Carrie Dauth
