No. The current categorisation system already makes sense, is well known, and provides Australians confidence in their own domain names. The only people who would see this as an opportunity are those that would seek to profit from domain name selling. If previous history is anything to go by, the "desirable" new domains will be auctioned off to the masses at ridiculously high prices, benefitting no one but the yourselves and the registrars. If the application requirements are anything less than for .com.aus, it will be yet another throw-away namespace targetted by phishers, scammers and spammers. If, heaven forbid, this proposal does get through, you must first consider the interests of current .com.au nameholders, and give them the option of registering the .au equivalent at the standard price, BEFORE general release and any auctioning frenzy starts. Eligibility should be tight to avoid these domains getting into the hands of spammers, phishers and domain dealers. 2. Should the Policy rules be changed? There is only one issue that needs to be addressed - currently when a business changes Names, ABN or ACN, or is sold, etc it is very difficult to update this information with the registrar. This process needs to be simplified without allowing domain traders to sell domains under this rule. I am also going to renew my disappointment at the monetization policy. I'm sure it's fulfilled it's purpose of registering more domains and filling more coffers (no doubt also the basis for the question in point 1), but it's been at the expense of real content, and made it harder for legitimate business entries to follow. 3. Should registrants be allowed to sell their .au names? See (2) above - only under certain circumstances. Consideration needs to be given to smoothing the process for legitimate business restructuring/changing hands. Absolutely NO consideration should be given to domain traders. EVER.
