Registrar Accreditation

Why Become an auDA Accredited Registrar?

There are two reasons for becoming an auDA accredited registrar:

  • Registrars have direct access to the registry database operated by AusRegistry.
  • Registrars can purchase .au domains at the "wholesale" price offered by AusRegistry - see table below.

As at 1 March 2008 (in $AUD):

2LD AusRegistry fee
(GST inc)
auDA fee
(GST inc)
Total "wholesale" price
(GST inc)
com.au* $16.50 $3.85 $20.35
net.au* $16.50 $3.85 $20.35
asn.au $5.50 $3.85 $9.35
id.au $11.00 $3.85 $14.85
org.au $5.50 $3.85 $9.35

*subject to future price reduction according to cumulative volume of 2LD registrations

Accredited registrars operate under a Registrar Agreement with auDA and a Registry-Registrar Agreement with AusRegistry (see below).

Accreditation costs:

  • application fee to auDA of AUD$2,200 (GST inc) - non-refundable
  • annual licence fee to auDA of AUD$3,300 (GST inc)
  • starting balance with AusRegistry of AUD$10,000.

Registrars must also meet the cost of any technical development, staff training etc required to obtain accreditation.

How to Apply for Registrar Accreditation

The Registrar Accreditation Application Package comprises the following documents:

PLEASE NOTE: As a pre-requisite for lodging an accreditation application with auDA, you must have had at least 6 months continuous experience as an appointed reseller of an auDA accredited registrar.

Prospective registrars will need to familiarise themselves with the Code of Practice and auDA's Published Policies.

A copy of the Registry-Registrar Agreement and other information about the registry-registrar technical interface is available from AusRegistry. Please note that you will not be able to access AusRegistry's systems until you have been provisionally accredited by auDA.

The application form explains the accreditation process, step by step. If you have any questions, you can contact auDA's Industry Liaison Officer at info@auda.org.au. Please make sure you have read the application form before you contact auDA.
