In the advent of transfer to another Registrar, I do not believe that any of the period of registration remaining at the time of transfer should be lost. Others have also made this point in earlier comments. 2. The transfer procedure depends heavily (and I believe correctly) on the use of domain name passwords. I am aware that not all domain name passwords issued since 1 July 2002 comply with the auDA Domain Name Password Policy. At the registrant level such a password can have the result of greatly complicating any transfer between registrars. At an auDA level, if there are many such passwords, it might be necessary to invoke Paragraph 7.1 "Exceptional Transfers" far more frequently for individual registrants than is desirable. I would therefore suggest that the need for compliance with the auDA Domain Name Password Policy should also be addressed in conjunction with the review of Change of Registrar Policy.
