The restricted approach is also very much out of step with, and overtaken by, the developments in most overseas domains. While I do not agree that the "open slather" approach of the .com domains is ideal I believe that where a company or commercial organisation can demonstrate a valid use for what is also a geographic name then they should be allowed to use it. in many cases this would assist in keeping urls brief and easily remembered, which will facilitate internet use and easy location of information on the company or organisation being sought.
