From: Brandt Campbell Sent: Wednesday, 7 July 2004 10:33 PM To: jo.lim@auda.org.au Subject: Geographic Names suggestion. Dear Jo, It is with concern that I note Auda is reconsidering the Australian policy on "geographic names". May I suggest that geographic names form an offical 3rd level domains administered by auda and their registrars in the same way the 2nd level under .au is currently managed. EG domain1.geographicname.com.au domain2.geographicname.com.au etc This way many groups and businesses will have equal access to the place name and no one gains an unfair advantage just because they got to the registration first or with the most money. A (sub) domain registration fee could be levied at a reduced price (because its not a 2nd level domain such as domain.com.au or domain.net.au*). The reduced price is compensated for by the potentially large number of possible domain names per 2nd level domain. I hope this suggestion is of help. Yours Sincerely, Brandt Campbell Sundial Computer Networks Sundial Computer & IT Centre Hobart, Tasmania
