[A] Re-wording Policy 1b. Suggest rewording from: "...within a State or Territory ..." to "..within the same State or Territory..." The reason being that there ought to be no confusion if it is within a different State given the fact that the State is given just before .au. [B] General I think the idea should be extended to include businesses. I do not understand the value of limiting it to not-for-profit and community groups only. The concept could provide a considerable and much needed boost for smaller businesses who wish to continue to serve their local communities but who want to utilise internet based marketing. Including businesses in this way would I believe in no way diminish or detract from the value of the 2LD's to the currently included groups. In fact I think it likely that it would enhance the value to such groups as the concept would become more widely known and accepted by the community at large. Furthermore it should be noted that one of the primary problems of using the internet to find local businesses (which I as a consume often want to do) is that of swamping by "the global" or "Australia-wide" sites that come back from say a Google search. Local search engines are often ineffective as they are simply not extensive enough. However by utilising the site:wantirna-south.vic.au facility in Google I would be able to quickly locate businesses in my suburb. This would be good for me and good for the local businesses. [C]Policy 1a Based on the argument presented above I would strongly support the use of non-addressable locality names for example: easternsuburbs-melbourne.vic.au. However, to be effective non-addressable 2LD's would need to be easy to locate and use (see [D] below). The non-addressable names would also be of significant benefit for tourists, and for those community groups which spanned more than one suburb (of which there are many). [D] Mapping On the basis of [B] and [C] above I would like to suggest that a site be set up that provided an easy to use graphical drill-down representation of the database cited in 1a. Such a site should be widely advertised and linked to sites such as google.com.au; whereis.com.au; whitepages.com.au. This would enable users to quickly locate the relevant 2LD's for their area of interest. Best Regards, Graham Gunn
