If customers aren’t happy with the registrar or reseller they should be able to do a hassle-free transfer. There should definitely be no Domain name passwords needed to do a renewal or transfer. What I would like to know who made the policy that a registry key is needed to renew an Australian domain name it is pathetic. They say it is for security reasons that is fair enough security reasons for protecting the details of the registrant. But if a person wants to pay money to renew a domain name why should more details other than a domain name and a business name be needed to renew domains. If a person wants to pay money to renew someone else’s domain why should that be protected. I agree that a password should be present for updating and changing details, but for renewing domains, this does not protect for ownership of the domain. It makes it very difficult to compete with Melbourne IT when they have all the keys and change them as they like to make it difficult for other resellers and registrars to provide a competitive market. We have had many registrants call up asking for a renewal. Then when the Melbourne IT forms are filled out and the registry key is sent to the registrant. It has been incorrect. It makes it very difficult to compete with Melbourne IT when they have a majority of the registry keys and they make It difficult to retrieve them. For the market to be competitive we need this system of renewing and transferring hassle free for registrants, registrars and resellers or Melbourne IT will continue to hold the monopoly on the market now and in the future.
