I'm contacting you to voice my opposition to this plan. To allow commercial ownership of placename domains could cause many IP problems. I can see it benefiting only the lawyers who take briefs for the large number of parties who will be aggrieved. There is also a moral aspect, in that placenames are effectively the common property of all those who live or work in a place, or have other geographical associations with it. To allow only one of those persons (or perhaps an outsider, e.g. domain name speculator) will to some extent remove rights from all other stakeholders in that placename. regards, Dennis List School of Marketing University of South Australia
