From: Paul Michieli Sent: Thursday, 29 July 2004 2:06 PM To: jo.lim@auda.org.au Subject: RESTRICTION ON PLACE NAMES Dear Jo, I am writing to register my desire that the restriction of place names in domain names be lifted. We make this request as this current regulation is inconsistent with other aspect of Australian law. Our company was allowed company registration with the ASIC at the time of its incorporation and we are allowed to promote and advertise our company name but we cannot have the company as the domain name. We seek your consideration of this point as there is also inconsistency with domain names registered overseas. As our company name is a place name in Australia as well as in Italy, we find that we are able to register the desired domain name in Italy or with a .com registration. However as an Australian company it would be desirable to have a domain of .com.au We hope you review your policy or at least modify the regulation to cover legitimate company name registrations as distinct from purely exercisers in marketing strtergies. Thank you for your attention Sincerely Paul Michieli Campania Olive Oil Co Pty Ltd
