Corporate StationeryFrom: Scott Campbell Sent: Tuesday, 17 September 2002 6:26 PM To: 'jo.lim@auda.org.au' Cc: Jill Henry Subject: Support for .conf.au Dear Ms Lim The Perth Convention Bureau has recently been advised that the 2nd level domain, .conf.au, which is intended to be used by conference organisers for the promotion of conferences, could be removed by auDA. We in turn wish to show our support for the use of the conf.au domain and also wish to highlight potentially untapped opportunities within the meetings industry. The meetings industry in Western Australia alone is estimated to be worth $630 million dollars and with increased infrastructure over the next few years it is forecast to grow further. In the meetings industry the use of websites for promoting conferences is still highly undeveloped, however, with creative 2LD's such as .conf.au the potential for their use within the industry is highly viable and potentially profitable. We currently are unaware of any Western Australian organisations who sell or promote the use of websites specifically to conference organisers, and so potential opportunity within this sector still exists. We alone have records of almost 400 up and coming conferences in Western Australia, including over 50,000 people expected to attend conferences over the next twelve months. We as an organisation welcome initiatives that helps the meetings industry grow and therefore support the use of such 2LD's, suggesting that with the right marketing they could potentially become a valuable media for promoting conferences. Yours sincerely Scott Campbell Database Manager Perth Convention Bureau
