I have visited the web site for the AUDA, and, have viewed the report and I would like to make to following comments. 1) The Australian system of domians is completely out of step with other international domain systems. 2) Unless a less restrictive more open policy is adopted then the Australian system is in danger of becoming irrelevent to business users. 3) The cost of domain name registration is exhorbitant in Australia when compared with registration of .com and .net domains overseas. 4) The restriction of generic names prevents the development of effective web portals for Australian net users. As the owner of over 1000 domain names worldwide I only own one single .com.au domain as I find the restrictions ridiculous in these days of international e-commerce. The whole notion of the internet was ment to provide freedom for individuals and business to compete on a international basis and the policys of AUDA only server to restrict and hamper such activity.AKN as a company has a policy of not registering .com.au domain names until the situation has been resolved in a way that is friendly to business development however we are buying .com domains at a average rate of 20 per week with no restrictions hampering our activity surely this serves as a warning that business simply will go elsewhere if the process fails to serve its needs.
