Letter To Members: Review Of The .au Domain
Dear auDA Members and Stakeholders,
Earlier this week we received important correspondence from the Minister for Communications (Senator The Hon Mitch Fifield) regarding the review of the .au domain (the “Review”). That correspondence is now a public document, and I recommend you take the opportunity to read it fully. You can access it here.
The Review outlines a roadmap for a series of important reforms, and your Board is committed to guiding auDA through that reform process. It is an historic opportunity to reset auDA’s relationship with its members and stakeholders, and with the Federal Government. It is a process that will require comprehensive engagement over a period of at least 12 to 24 months.
The Minister has requested a written response from auDA within ten business days. We will seek the Minster’s consent for auDA’s response to be provided to you as well.
Furthermore, a detailed plan will be prepared to ensure there is a clear alignment among auDA’s members, the broader .au stakeholders, and auDA’s management and Board. The Review provides us with an opportunity to achieve a common purpose, and to put the past disruptions behind us. auDA will be seeking member and stakeholder support as we develop the plan, and to implement the plan.
Finally, auDA is currently preparing briefing materials to ensure the engagement process outlined above connects meaningfully with our stakeholder base. This will be an intensive undertaking. Consequently, your Board believes it will not be able to properly consider ‘direct registration’ until the second half of 2019 at the earliest. In the meantime, the Policy Review Panel (chaired by Mr John Swinson) will continue to consult with members and stakeholders on a range of policy matters that are under review. Our priority, however, is to achieve the milestones in the Review roadmap.
I will be writing to you weekly as part of improving the dialogue with you – our members, the broader .au stakeholders and the Federal Government.
