AusRegistry and .au Domain Administration (auDA) today launched the 2015 .au survey in an ongoing commitment to understand the Australian Internet user and their relationship with the .au domain namespace.

Debate to retain a free, open and interoperable Internet is what the Australian Internet Governance Forum (auIGF) exists to facilitate. Inviting ‘ambassadors’ to assist in the co-ordination of the auIGF is how the wider Internet using community can take an active role of engagement.

There is little doubt that 2014 has presented numerous challenges to Internet users and legislators. The data retention bill, the worldwide ‘GamerGate’ controversy and rampant online harassment affect us all. Debate within the third sector about the implications of initiatives like the Ice Bucket Challenge and the impact of limited Internet access on young Australians in remote and indigenous communities has been intense. Conversely, we know that more young people than ever are engaged in political and social debate because of their ability to participate easily online. The Internet continues to transform Australian society, for better or for worse.

The election will take place at auDA's Annual General Meeting, to be held on 27 October 2014 in Melbourne.
People intending to stand for election to the Board should note that their signed nominations must be received by 5pm AEST, Monday 22 September 2014. Late nominations will not be accepted.

People of all ages and backgrounds are turning to the Internet for information and support for mental health challenges, or to improve their general psychological wellbeing.
For young people, especially, online connections can be as real and beneficial as face-to-face catch ups with friends. Mobile apps targeting youth health are affordable and accessible, and online support websites can provide a sense of belonging and reassurance that you're "not the only one" with a mental health issue.

Melbourne played host to the Australia & New Zealand Internet Awards (ANZIA) ceremony. Over 200 people were in attendance to celebrate some of the most creative and diverse online projects which were rewarded for their outstanding contribution to the Internet community in Australia and New Zealand. This is the biggest turnout in the ANZIA’s six year history.
