auDA has welcomed strategic communications executive Sophie Mitchell as its Chief Communications Officer.

Sophie will lead the communications, industry and government relations, and brand and marketing functions, as well as the Associate Member program, reporting to Chief Executive Officer, Rosemary Sinclair AM.

Ms Sinclair said, "I'm incredibly pleased to welcome Sophie to auDA. She is a well-respected leader in the communications sector with a strong background in stakeholder relations, technology and connectivity.

"The .au domain is an integral part of Australia's Internet infrastructure, enabling social connectivity and online business. As Australians we rely on this now more than ever, which is why it is great to have Sophie on board to shape our continued engagement and communications with Australian Internet users, auDA’s Associate Members and our multi-stakeholder community.

"Sophie brings with her a wealth of valuable experience in corporate strategy, communications, media and government that make her uniquely positioned to champion our work in administering the .au domain in the public interest."

Sophie said, "I'm delighted to join auDA and look forward to working with the team to build trust and confidence in .au and helping to underpin Australia’s digital society and economy."

Sophie joins auDA from Newgate Communications where she was an Associate Partner and provided strategic communications and public affairs advice to a range of private and public sector clients, including in the technology sector. Prior to Newgate, Sophie managed corporate affairs at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and has worked in government, including as a senior adviser to the federal Communications Minister in 2007- 2009.
