The .au Dispute Resolution Policy aims to provide a cheaper, speedier alternative to litigation to resolve disputes between the registrant of a .au domain name and a party with competing rights in the domain name.

The grounds for complaint and procedural rules are set out in the .au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP) (2016-01).

The auDRP is an adaptation of the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) administered by ICANN with respect to the global Top Level Domains (gTLDs).

How to lodge an auDRP complaint

Complaints under the policy can be submitted to any auDA approved auDRP Provider (listed below in alphabetical order). auDA does not handle auDRP complaints.

Complaints are determined by a Panel (single or three-member) appointed by the Provider from its listed Panelists. Each Provider follows the auDRP Rules, as well as its own supplemental rules.

If you need to know the creation date of the domain name for lodging a formal claim under the auDRP, you can submit a Request for Domain Name Creation Date.

PLEASE NOTE: The Request for Domain Name Creation Date can be only made with regards to a formal claim under the .au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP) or Australian Court proceeding ONLY, and should not be used for any other purpose whatsoever.

    • World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)

    auDRP panelists

Independent arbitrators who hear auDRP complaints are known as "Panelists".

Each auDRP Provider is wholly responsible for the appointment of its listed Panelists. Individuals who wish to become auDRP Panelists should contact a Provider. It is possible to be a Panelist for more than one Provider.

    auDRP overview

The auDRP Overview is a compendium of consensus views of panels on key legal and procedural issues under the auDRP. It has been produced for auDA by Dr Andrew F Christie, Foundation Professor of Intellectual Property at Melbourne Law School. The format is based on the UDRP Overview produced by WIPO.

This first edition of the auDRP Overview covers approximately 330 auDRP decisions from 1 August 2002 to 15 July 2014. auDA’s intention is for the Overview to be updated at regular intervals, as required.
