Consultation on auDA’s Purpose

auDA’s 2026-30 Strategy was released in mid-2025. The Strategy sets out auDA’s purpose as: ‘To ensure a secure and reliable operation of the .au and the internet’s naming system, and champion an open, free, secure and interoperable internet, for the benefit of all Australians’.

auDA’s Board seeks to simplify auDA’s purpose statement to ensure it is accessible and memorable, and clearly and simply articulates what auDA does, for whom and to what end.

The proposed new purpose statement is: "Connecting Australians to an open internet with trust and confidence".

auDA’s Board seeks member and community input on its revised purpose statement.

auDA asks respondents to consider and respond to the following questions in their submission:

  1. Does auDA’s revised purpose statement use accessible and memorable language?
  2. Does auDA’s revised purpose statement clearly and simply articulate what auDA does, for whom and to what end?
  3. Is auDA’s revised purpose statement a clear improvement on its previous purpose statement? If not, why not?

Please note that all submissions will be published on our website following a final decision on the proposed amendments, unless you ask us to keep your submission private. auDA reserves the right to redact or decline to publish the submission where it includes inappropriate content such as potentially defamatory material. We will advise you if such a decision is made.
