3 June, 2024

On 1 June 2024, the .au registry was upgraded to a new cloud-based platform.

Operated by .au registry operator, Identity Digital, the new registry platform will provide greater security and resilience for the .au registry. The upgraded platform will deliver higher levels of fault tolerance, including greater redundancy and automation to support availability of the registry, and security enhancements to access control, data protection, encryption, and threat detection and analytics.

The upgrade took place from midnight, Friday 31 May 2024 (AEST) to 1pm, Saturday 1 June 2024 (AEST), during which time the .au registry was paused. New .au domain name registrations and changes to existing .au domain name registration details were not able to be made during this time but recommenced from 1pm, Saturday 1 June 2024 (AEST).

The .au domain name system continued to operate without interruption throughout the upgrade window. The new Identity Digital platform is already supporting other prominent Top Level Domains including .org and .info. The .au registry infrastructure is and will continue to be located in Australia.
